Complete Magazine Draft 3

Reflection

This is my third draft which is fairly similar to the second draft with a few minor changes such as changing the main image on the front page to monochrome I felt like this related to my genre more as HipHop is more like a ’90s hood genre and I felt monochrome signified the genre more. One other minor change is the text wrap on my contents page I removed it and put it just behind the image. Therefore compared to my second draft, there is little change. The things I need to work on for my fourth and Final draft are page numbers which are very vital and my two other images these are things I need to work on urgently.

2nd Draft DPS

WHAT’S NEW

Starting with what’s new I have messed around with the masthead of my feature article and I have decided to get rid of the drop shadow, I felt the drop shadow didn’t go with the rest of the text. I also finished the text and made it end at the bottom as it is an unwritten rule to have text finish at the end of the page. Compared to my first DPS I have changed the masthead font as well I did this because a bolder font relates to my genre and under my masthead I hanged the stand first colours to make it more simplistic. The last modification I did was taking away one of the drop capitals in the body text I did this because it just felt out of place in addition to this I got rid of the gaps in the text as I don’t even know myself as to why I had them there.

WHAT’S NEXT

What I thought I should do urgently is take my second shoot to get my final image, the image I’m going for is a big mid shot of the star crouching maybe throwing gang signs up another critical addition is page numbers this is not a time-consuming task but it is vital to the layout of the magazine the thing I need to remember about page numbers is that the left page is always a positive number and the right-hand page is always a negative number. Now something that is not so important is I need to add tags for the images and text like “Written By Rhys Blampied” This is shown in all magazines but is usually small and in a corner.

Feature Article

Joao Rega has just released his new hit single ‘Make It.’ Least I need to tell you it has taken over the world by storm  hitting rank 1 on December 10 2024 this is record breaking taking only 3 days to hit 1. This break out has made him soar through the music industry, going from unknown to a household that is no small feat. Where did he start? He started at Scampia, an unfortunate and deprived part of Italy, Napoli. however this did not stop him, growing up listening to Capo Plaza a Italian rapper,  he felt inspired and decided to make a song with his friends and despite all odds he came out with his first song on YouTube,  ‘Timeless’ although this song did not go viral it jump started his music career as his next song had 20 thousand streams in the first month. This may not sound like a lot however for a second song of a new artist it is almost unheard of. However in the midst of all this Joao got hit with a call from the hospital saying his mother collapsed and fell ill, however none of that fazed him as he would go to release another masterpiece of a song ‘Karma.’  This song put him in the spotlight and gave him more chances to feature on different famous artist songs such as Kanye West and 50 Cent which all lead to his most recent single ‘Make It’. Following this Joao is going on tour across Europe while giving back to his community as he is performing in four venues across Italy, Then he is moving to Spain, Germany, France and then finishing at the O2 Manchester in England. You get special scopes on Joao and his upbringing and how he dealt with problems whilst also making music

1st Draft of The Double Page Spread

Reflection

This is the first draft of my feature article. To say the least, it is unfinished so I am going to start off by stating what I need to improve, the first improvement I need to make is complete the second shoot to complete the right-hand side page I am going for a big mid shot for this page another major thing I need to do is finishing the article so it finishes at the end of the page right now how it ends in the middle makes the hole page look tacky. In addition to these, I need to play with either the typeface or colour pallet maybe to match my genre more, lastly, I think a bigger space between the body text and the yellow bar would make it look more professional. However there are many things I like about the draft such as the hierarchy of the words like how it goes masthead then the stand first and following that the actual article. The thing I like the most about my first is the text wrap on the pull quote it really makes the pull quote stand out and is the first piece of text you see after the masthead.

Specsaver’s Creative Team Feedback

Reflection

Today graphic designers from Specsavers came in to give us advice on our Magazines to summaries their points:

-On my contents page I should experiment with the weight of the text as it may be hard to read

-I should darken the green so it is easier to read

-on my second page of contents I should add an image for balance

-On my Feature article I should keep colour scheme the same

-increase margin
